Important information about using MetaRase

MetaRase is designed to help users inspect, rebuild and remove supported metadata and related embedded information from image files. Results may vary depending on the image format, browser, encoding, metadata implementation and other technical factors. MetaRase does not guarantee that every possible item of metadata, provenance information, identifier, watermark, fingerprint, hidden data structure or other trace will be detected or removed.

Verification results and reports are provided for informational purposes only. A successful verification result is not a certification that an image is anonymous, untraceable, free of all metadata, suitable for forensic use, compliant with any particular law or regulation, or incapable of being associated with its source through other technical or contextual means.

Cleaning or rebuilding an image may modify its file structure, encoding, metadata, provenance information and, depending on the selected settings and format, pixel values or image quality. Keep an original copy of any image where provenance, authenticity, evidentiary value, copyright information or an original file is important.

Some metadata may contain copyright, authorship, attribution, licensing, provenance or other rights-management information. You must not use MetaRase to remove or alter information where doing so would infringe another person's rights, violate applicable law, breach a licence or contract, misrepresent the origin or authenticity of content, or facilitate or conceal infringement. Only process images that you own or for which you have the necessary rights, permissions or other lawful authority.

Removal of C2PA, provenance or similar information may affect authenticity indicators, content credentials or information displayed by third-party platforms and services. MetaRase does not represent that removing such information is lawful or appropriate in every circumstance.

MetaRase processes supported image content locally in the user's browser as described by the service. This does not mean that no information whatsoever is transmitted when using the website. Account, authentication, billing, security, diagnostic, consent or other service-related data may be processed separately as described in the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

MetaRase does not control how third-party websites, social networks, messaging services, operating systems or other platforms process an exported image. Third parties may modify files, add new metadata, generate identifiers, retain previous copies or use other methods to analyse or associate content after export.

MetaRase is not a forensic, anonymity, legal-compliance, evidence-preservation or digital-rights certification service. Do not rely on the service as the sole means of protecting highly sensitive information or satisfying legal, regulatory, contractual, evidentiary or professional obligations.

You are responsible for determining whether your use of MetaRase and any resulting image is lawful and appropriate for your circumstances.

Nothing in this notice excludes or restricts any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted under applicable law.

Terms

MetaRase is provided as-is. You are responsible for the images you clean and for complying with the terms of any platform you share them on.

Legal notice

MetaRase is a privacy-first image metadata tool. Removed indicators are limited to supported embedded metadata; no guarantee is made about how a third party classifies an image.
