Tool
AI metadata remover
AI generators and editors add machine-readable marks: C2PA Content Credentials, XMP fields, and sometimes prompt text. MetaRase rebuilds the image so those file-based signals are gone before you share it.
How to use it
- 1Add the AI-generated or AI-edited images.
- 2Check the report for C2PA, XMP, IPTC, or workflow indicators.
- 3Clean the image to produce a fresh container without those indicators.
- 4Confirm the after-scan is clean and download.
Metadata versus pixel watermarks
C2PA, IPTC, and XMP marks live in the file container and can be removed by rebuilding. Invisible pixel watermarks such as SynthID are part of the image data and cannot be removed by a tool like this.
Why platforms show an AI label
Some platforms read Content Credentials or AI fields from the uploaded file and display a label. If the file no longer carries those fields, the platform has nothing to read and the metadata-driven label loses its source.
What AI metadata can contain
The exact fields vary by tool, but the categories recur.
- C2PA / Content Credentials provenance containers.
- XMP entries that note an AI workflow or an editing application.
- IPTC digital-source-type hints.
- Prompt or model text stored as metadata by some pipelines.
Where it hides by format
The location depends on the format.
| Format | AI metadata location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| JPEG | APP11 C2PA, APP1 XMP | Common editor export. |
| PNG | caBX C2PA, iTXt XMP | Lossless output. |
| WebP | C2PA and XMP chunks | Compact and web-friendly. |
| HEIC / AVIF | ISO-BMFF boxes | Newer phone and tool exports. |
Honest limits
MetaRase cannot stop a platform from classifying an image by other means, and it cannot remove visible AI disclaimers drawn into the picture. It removes supported file-based indicators and re-scans the exported file so you can see which supported indicators remain.
Frequently asked questions
Will this stop every AI label?
No. It removes supported file-based indicators. Platforms may use their own detection, and pixel-level watermarks remain.
Does it remove the prompt I used?
Prompt and workflow text stored as metadata is dropped when the image is rebuilt. Text visible inside the picture stays.
Is this allowed?
Removing metadata from images you own is generally permitted. Do not strip copyright or ownership information that belongs to someone else.
Can it remove SynthID?
No. SynthID and similar watermarks are part of the pixels, not the file metadata.
Does cleaning change how the image looks?
No. The image is re-encoded but the scene is unchanged.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.

Inspect, clean, and verify in your browser
Your image bytes never leave your device. MetaRase rebuilds the image locally, then scans the output again before you download it.
